Kuku Characteristics

Kuku (In Indonesian), nandu or nedun wood, scientific name: Pericopsis mooniana, mainly distributed in Indonesia, Malaysia.

The heartwood is chocolate brown that darkening with age and highlighted with shades of lighter wood. The color becomes darker after aging. The grain is straight to interlocked, with a moderate natural luster.

As a tropical wood species, the mechanical characteristics is similar to teak. The Janka hardness scores 6490N, and the specific gravity at 12% MC is 0.77 g/cm3. The supply volume of Kuku wood is limited.
