BIRCH Characteristics

Birch, scientific name: Batula spp., including B. alleghaniensis, B. alnoides, B. pupyrifera etc., widely distributed in Asia, Europe and North America.

The heartwood tends to be a light reddish brown. The sapwood is nearly white to light yellow. There is virtually no color distinction between annual growth rings, giving Birch a uniform appearance. The grain is generally straight or slightly wavy, with a fine, even texture. Low natural luster.

Birch is relatively soft, smooth and easy to process. The specific gravity at 12% MC is 0.62 g/cm3. The Janka Hardness is 4140N. Birch is quite suitable for antique flooring and almost all color paintings. The reasonable price also makes it popular among all hardwood species.

*Top layer thickness is measured prior to the finishing process. Finishing processes such as brushing may affect the overall thickness.

** Based upon the use of formaldehyde-free glues, our timber floors are in full compliance with F**** formaldehyde emissions regulations.
